The Thrifty Teacher is a female-owned, local education store in Laurel, MD with two departments:

  • Teach & Learn: a retail department focusing on new and gently used school supplies

  • Make & Take: our creative department that supports children’s artistic growth through painting and makerspace.

Make & Take
The art studio hosts guided painting parties, open studio painting and makerspace. It is an area of open creativity for school-age artists! 

Anytime that there is not a guided painting party is open studio time! For $15 you receive everything you need to create your own painting using our examples or from your own imagination!

    Learn how to use your Cricut to create everything you need in a classroom! Quarter 1 is up, so come let The Thrifty Teacher show you how to use your cricut to update those bulletin boards and stations materials! Leave with a personalized gift to practice iron on cricket skills!
  • Artist Escape! Preteen Journaling and Yoga Night Out

    During this workshop your preteen can escape for a night! We will create journals that reflect our personal style, then do some writing exercises, have dinner and also be guided through yoga and learn some additional relaxation techniques. The event is geared toward ages 10-13, by all are welcome!
